Charlie Comes to Mind

Charlie Comes to Mind

When I think of generous with love, with hope, with time,
When I think of character, Charlie comes to mind.
When I consider decency and everything that’s fine,
When I think of a man’s man, Charlie comes to mind.

Comes to mind, comes to mind,
Laid his life on the line.
A word of hope for our time,
That’s why Charlie comes to mind.

When I think of friendliness, outgoing, warm, and kind,
And when I think of fatherhood, Charlie comes to mind.
And when I think of words of faith spoken for our time,
When I long for a prophet’s voice, Charlie comes to mind.

Comes to mind, comes to mind,
Laid his life on the line.
A word of hope for our time,
That’s why Charlie comes to mind.

When my spirit searches, seeking for a sign,
Looking for a patterned son, Charlie comes to mind.
And when I dwell on sons of God, taken in their prime,
To rip the curtain open, Charlie comes to mind.

Comes to mind, comes to mind,
Laid his life on the line.
A word of hope for our time,
That’s why Charlie comes to mind.

When you think of “character” and “decency,” who comes to mind for you?

Who do you know that has laid down their life—or their comfort—for something greater?

How has fatherhood—either your own, or someone else’s example—shaped your view of life and faith?

Who are the “patterned sons” or role models that guide your path?

Who is your “Charlie”?

When the world needs hope, whose life and example comes to your mind?
