Independence Is the Enemy of Oneness The Body of Christ was never meant to function through independence.
God is building a Family, and a family cannot remain strong when every person moves according to their own thoughts, desires, and understanding. True oneness comes when believers hear the voice of the Lord, submit to His Spirit, and allow the life of Christ within them to flow to one another. Independence separates. The Spirit of the Lord makes us one.
Jesus said:
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
— John 10:27
The key is hearing the voice of the Lord together. There may be times when someone speaks a word from the Lord or helps redirect what God is saying, but the focus must always remain on Christ. Human ideas cannot create spiritual oneness. The presence of the Lord must be the center of everything.
Scripture says:
“The anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you.”
— 1 John 2:27
Every believer who has been born again carries the life of Christ within. This means that ministry is not simply something a person does. It is the expression of who that person has become in Christ. The anointing is not understood through human reasoning alone. It is recognized through the presence and moving of the Holy Spirit. When a believer desires to minister love, encouragement, strength, and life to the Family, the anointing of the Lord can flow through them. Every Member of the Family Is Important Every person has a place in the Body of Christ.
Sometimes the enemy tries to convince believers that they do not matter, that they do not belong, or that they have nothing to contribute. But the Body is not complete without every member. A jigsaw puzzle is not complete when even one piece is missing. In the same way, each member of the Family carries something of Christ that is needed by the others.
Paul wrote:
“Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”
— 1 Corinthians 12:27
Your value does not come from how much you speak, how visible you are, or what position you hold. Your value comes from Christ living within you. You are important because you give your spirit to the oneness God is creating.
Paul described this mystery as:
“Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
— Colossians 1:27
When Christ is formed within a believer, His life begins to affect everyone around them. The presence they carry can minister even before they speak. The goal is not to perform ministry. The goal is to become a vessel through which Christ can reveal Himself.
The Family comes into oneness by submitting to the Lord, His Word, His Spirit, and His love. Humility allows us to lay down our own understanding and listen for what the Lord is saying. Submission is not weakness. It creates room for the strength and life of Christ to be expressed. Instead of allowing the soul to react, we can choose to express the Christ who lives within us.
Scripture says:
“The joy of the Lord is your strength.”
— Nehemiah 8:10
This strength comes through an awareness that the Father is near. He is not distant. He is not absent. He has promised:
“I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
— Hebrews 13:5
The Father is always with us. The question is whether we are aware of His presence. As our awareness of Him grows, our reactions begin to change. We no longer have to speak from fear, frustration, or self-interest. We can respond from the strength, peace, and love of Christ within.
“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee.”
— John 17:21
Oneness is not merely a good idea. It is part of Christ’s prayer and purpose for His people. The human mind may try to interfere with that oneness, but when believers submit to the Lord, His Spirit brings them into humility, love, and fellowship. Without His presence, the Body cannot function properly. His presence is the lifeblood that flows through every member and joins them together.
Independence says, “I can do this on my own.”
Oneness says, “I need the Lord, and I need the members of His Family.”
Independence follows personal understanding.
Oneness listens for the voice of the Lord.
Independence protects personal interests.
Oneness lays down its life in love.
God is not building a collection of independent individuals. He is creating a people who live by His Spirit and function together as one Body. As each member submits to Christ and gives their spirit to the Family, the presence of the Lord begins to flow more freely.
True oneness cannot be produced through human effort, shared opinions, or organizational structure. It comes as each member rejects independence, hears the voice of the Lord, submits the mind and soul to His Spirit, and allows the life of Christ within them to flow to the Family. Every member is important because every member carries something of Christ. As we live in the awareness of the Father’s presence, His strength becomes our strength, His love flows through us, and His Spirit makes us one.

I agree, this is truly awesome, humbling, and refreshing. I have been wondering how some communities and families raise the kindest and most grounded children, and the answer is that it’s because of the presence of a kind and grounded God, Whose Spirit guides us when we choose to be guided by Him. Teach your kids that early and often, and they’ll stay connected to God from that point on.
